BBC HD Trials
Sunday, May 27, 2007, 09:02 PM
Using my Hauppauge freeview tuner I can just pick up the signal from Crystal Palace which is trialing BBC HD. Unfortunately it cannot be run on the fly at the moment due to codecs. However I could record and play the transmission however it was pixelated as the signal quality was below 25%. At present the signal is being kept as low as possible and the trial is taking place in croydon.

Anyone else who lives close by to Crystal Palace can try on the following frequencies:
- UHF 31 (554 MHz) - BBC HD Trial Multiplex
- UHF 27 (522 MHz) - ITV, Channel 4 and Five HD Trial Multiplex

More details at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Palace_transmitting_station

TS Readler Lite will enable you to manually tune to the frequency. Use VLC to play the recorder-ed file.

Time to start learning C#. Seems to be similar to Java however there are probally major differences.

// Namespace Declaration
using System;

// Program start class
class NamedWelcome
{
// Main begins program execution.
public static void Main(string[] args)
{
// Write to console
Console.WriteLine("Hello, {0}!", args[0]);
Console.WriteLine("Welcome to the C# Station Tutorial!");
}
}

Nokia N91
Sunday, March 12, 2006, 10:47 PM
Been looking for a new gadget to buy and after the Origami turned out to be a joke, the Nokia N91 caught my eye.

The Nokia N91 is part of Nokia's new media-centric N series, and apparently they're throwing down against Motorola, Sony Ericsson, and Samsung and putting a 4GB hard drive in there, an industry standard 3.5mm headphone jack, support for playback of MP3, M4A, AAC, and WMA audio files, and USB 2.0 so you can just drag and drop your files over from your PC. Better still, the N91 has 3G (WCDMA) and both built-in WiFi and Bluetooth.

Can't wait for this to appear, if only it has GPS as well it would be everything you need from mobile device.

I have got my hands on a laptop for just £25:

Hard disk size: 10.0 GB
External Floppy Drive
Internal 24x CD-ROM drive
Screen size: 13.3 inches
Screen max resolution: 1024x768
Screen type description: TFT

I have added a 11mb Wireless PCMIA card and installed WinXp. Everything worked perfectly and its seem to work niceley. Will run some more tests and test out the battery.

F2S ISP

My exchange has finally been enabled to take LLU connections under easyjet which is great news.

Expected connection speed is 6 to 8mbs. Considering 2mb has been solid for the last year a good speed should be expected. So you are probally thinking it should be a simple descion to regrade.

BUT f2s has been taken over by coms giant PIPEX which means the future of f2s is uncertain. Will they change prices? change caps? block services ?

F2S assures us as that they will still run seperate company. With the easynet LLU service not going perfectly at the moment and Sky looking to purchase a ISP, things look uncertain.

Best to wait a bit and see what happens, though even that risks that the exchange gets full under easynet connections.
